Listening and Advocating We need a council that is in touch with the communities it represents. Kathy will keep in contact, listen and actively bridge the gaps between the fifth district’s citizens, businesses and council. Kathy on listening and advocating: As past President of Maryland Save Our Streams, a community action-based environmental organization, I worked in the effort to connect thousands of volunteers to their local neighborhood streams. Based on community organizing concepts, we worked directly with volunteers and groups to help spawn and support local watershed groups that have successfully worked to protect, restore and preserve their neighborhood streams. We created replicable volunteer programs that educated the layperson on how to adopt their local stream and perform a variety of water quality activities. As a leader, I pursued and secured funding for these programs, worked with groups in their streams and helped bring groups together to address the problems in a more comprehensive manner.   I will bring this same energy, enthusiasm and organization to solving other problems that face the citizens of Baltimore County.
